If you're trying to grow a perennial garden but you have no idea why it's not growing, then maybe you're doing something wrong. Perennial flowers may take a long time to grow but they're fairly easy to plant. Planting perennials take basic skills, anyone can do it. So can you! You just have to do everything within their right measurements.
The first common mistake that people tend to make is that they over-water the area. When you're planting a perennial garden, don't water the seedlings too much. This drowns the seedlings, thus, they would be completely damaged. What you need to do is to plant the seedlings in a "seed starting tray." The trays usually contain single cells for the seedlings. Leave one cell empty. When you water the seedlings, pour the small amount of water in the empty cell. So that, the tray and the seedlings would absorb the water from the empty watered cell. This would regulate the flow of water.
Another good tip is to collect the seeds from your perennial flowers in the fall. You only have to cut away the seed pods that are kept in the flower garden. In doing so, the flowers would instantly germinate in spring time. To garden effectively, the best way is to do it without the gloves. This helps a big deal because you would really have a hands-on on the flowers and the seedlings. Do all these, and you'll have a blooming perennial garden in no time! You can start a nice house design with your flowering perennial garden!

If you're living in a confined space, but you still want a garden, well there's a solution for that. You can just plant flowers on a container garden. Container gardens are basically compact gardens that you can put anywhere around the house. Of course, there should still be sun exposure for the flowers to bloom beautifully.
Planting on container gardens is just like planting on a yard soil. The only difference is that you have limited space for your flower selections. You have to carefully choose the flowers that you want to grow. You should also choose flowers that don't grow too tall or too big, or else, they would be cramped in your container garden. A good idea for the container garden is to plant it with spilling flowers. That way, it's would look like a flower bouquet. You can also plant elongated stem-flowers for a clean and simple effect in your house. You can also blend and mix up the flowers for a blended house interior color.
Some people make use of their ceramic tile pots. This is also a good container for your small flower garden. You just have to remember that you must only plant flowers with small roots and stems, so that they won't burst out of the ceramic pot when they grow. Container gardens are easy to maintain if you just put in the right amount of fertilizer. You shouldn't forget to water your garden, but don't overdo it as it can drown the flowers. Lastly, just buy quality containers that wouldn't easily break.

I've always liked the sunflower. I think everyone brightens up with just the sight of a sunflower. Well, guess what? If you like looking at sunflowers so much, why not plant them on your backyards or front yards? You may think that they're highly complicated to plant and grow. But, they're not. Sunflowers can instantly brighten up your yards, much more it's a cute house design! An accent of yellow is always a good idea. You can just start with sunflowers. Sunflowers are also a good idea for a fabulous interior design.
There are several kinds of sunflowers. There's the Teddy Bear sunflower, this is the "fuzzy" kind of sunflower and it can grow up to 18 inches tall. This is the type of sunflower that can be planted on soil boxes or limited areas of soil. Another good plant box sunflower is the Music Box sunflower. It's fairly small for a sunflower. It grows up to 28 inches. But, it's a very lovely sunflower, with touches of yellow and cream white color. The Autumn Mix sunflower is the darker kind of sunflower. It usually ranges from bright yellow to rust and it can grow up to 6 foot. This is also one of the larger types of sunflower. The flower itself can be as wide as 5 or 6 inches.
If you think sunflowers are just yellow, well, there's a white one. The Italian White is not at all bright white, more on cream white and it can grow up to 4 foot. You can just plant them on corners or small yard areas. Lastly, there's the Large Variety Sunflowers. These are the official sunflowers. They're the most common kinds that we see on yards and farms. They can grow from 10 to 15 foot tall. These are the type of sunflower that really catches attention, if you want that burst of yellow colors in your yards. They vary in color. But, the range is usually just yellows of all kinds.

Petals are part of a flower. Flowers are mostly attractive because of its petals. They are usually colorful and showy because they use as an aid in asexual reproduction.
Plants can be identified as monocot or dicots depending on the number of petals they have. Dicots grow four or five petals while monocots grow three petals or multiple of threes. There are also flowers that have irregular petals such as orchids and some pea plants.
Flowers use their petals to attract pollinating agents like birds, bees and humans. Petals are used by people as potpourri. They also use it as bed spread if they want to make making-love with a person extra sweet and special. Some flower petals are also now used as ingredients in dishes.
Other people use petals as a way to see if their admired person likes them. They pluck the petals slowly and say "He loves me, he loves me not..." I suggest that if you're planning to do this, choose monocots because for sure, the answer would be is that he loves you. Stay away from sunflowers because it will kill your time before you actually find out if 'he loves you or he loves you not.'

When I'm planting flowers, I would want them to grow and bloom immediately. It's just a lovely sight to see the seeds you've planted grow into beautiful, colorful, and vibrant flowers. The best way to have colors in your gardens automatically is to plant annual flowers. Annual flowers are easier to grow and maintain than perennial flowers. Some nice annual flowers are zinnias, petunias, marigolds, and asters.
Now, how can you get those annual colorful flowers to bloom in no time? In your garden, you have to find a nice spot with a good proper sun exposure, at least for five hours in a day. Dig and pulverize the soil eight inches deep. Then, plant in a row position according to the size of the seeds. That way, the seeds would grow faster. You have to put spaces in between the seeds so that they wouldn't be cramped under the soil when they begin to grow. But, before anything else, you must water the rows first. This would make it easier to plant your seeds. In addition to this, you should also shade the rows with a newspaper, any grass clippings, or a burlap. When your seeds begin to spurt its first green stem, you can already remove your shade. After a short period of time, you'll see your wonderful, colorful, and lovely flowers bloom in your yards. These flowers are instant house designs, to make the drab into fab!

Periwinkle flowers are one of my most favorite flowers. Other than the fact that they're pretty and refreshing to look at, they have medicinal purposes. There are many kinds of periwinkle flowers. Some periwinkle flowers bloom annually and some periwinkles are perennials. The Madagascar periwinkle is a perennial flower. It's scientifically called the Catharanthus Roseus.
The Madagascar periwinkle and some other types of periwinkle are also commonly called the Myrtle. These flowers originated from the soils of Madagascar. This flower grows everywhere around the world, as long as the climate is warm. It usually grows until two feet, and it has bright to dark green glossy leaves. The flowers bloom for the whole summer season. Usually, the flowers are pink and lilac in color. But there are several periwinkles which are bright to hot pink or purple.
This plant has always been a good medicinal plant for the diabetes disease. In some traditional European countries, this plant is said to be the remedy for diabetes. In India, the periwinkle's juice is used to cure wasp bites or stings, and other insect-related bites. In China, this plant is used as an astringent, a cure for cough, and a diuretic. In many parts of South America, the periwinkle is used to remedy lung ailments, colds, and sore throat. I guess in many other countries, the periwinkle has a lot to offer for illnesses and such.

I have always wondered about the nice flowers in many old photographs, the blazing stars. They look so alive that I thought they never die, and partially, I was right. The blazing stars are perennial flowers. Although they do wilt at times, they're most likely to live for a long time. Compared to other beautiful flowers, the blazing stars really stand the test of time in certain seasons. Usually they flower and bloom in late summer or early spring.
The blazing stars or the liatris spicata are usually lilac in color. Usually, they also bloom in deep rose-purple colors. They have stiff cylinder like spikes sticking out of the flower's body. They usually grow from two to six feet. If you're planning to grow them, blazing stars prefer moist and "well-drained" soil. The soil should be fertile, and this flower requires adequate sunlight. The probability of this plant to grow in your backyard maybe 50% out of a hundred. You just need to provide it with proper care. The blazing star usually starts to bloom from the month of June until September. You may want to plant them near your fences or low walls for added accents. Flowers are good features for nice house designs. The blazing star would definitely stand out along your fences. If you want this flower to grow in your yards, you may want to start now. This flower takes a long time to reach its full bloom. Happy planting then and get those green thumbs ready!

If you want flowers which symbolize chivalry and respect, choose Daffodils. Daffodils are just the cutest flowers, they look so dainty and so soothing. The Daffodils are also Wales' national flower. From afar, a daffodil looks like a small fluffy cloud, or a speck of cotton candy. They just cheer you up when everything else seem so gloomy.
The Daffodils vary in color and color-combinations. They are usually yellow, some are yellow with off-white, orange with yellow, orange with white, pink, and there are even lime green Daffodils. These flowers grow from bulbs. They usually bloom in the Spring time, with all the other lovely Spring flowers. They grow in accordance to the weather condition. Usually, these beautiful flowers grow in "cluster-forms." Thus, making them look like fluffy light clouds. All types of Daffodils have a center that's like a trumpet for a corona. The trumpet-like corona is surrounded by a bounty of petals. The petal shapes depend on the Daffodil's kind. Some petals resemble a balled-up shape. Some petals have frilly sides, and some have long petals.
This flower is from the family of genus Narcissus. For its English term, it's simply the Daffodil. There's a kind of Daffodil which only grows in Tenby. In Latin terms, the Daffodil is called the Narcissus, as its botanical name. Whatever this flower is called, it still looks the same to me. A Daffodil is a Daffodil, cheers me up every time.

Pardon the redundancy of this article. I just can't think of any better flower to fit the season of love than the 'rose'.
Valentine's Day is here. Although most people would say that this holiday is not really special because some money-hungry capitalist just thought about cashing in on some vague notion that February 14 should be the day when people should shell-out hard-earned cash just to profess their love for each other. Let's just say that these people usually spend their Valentine's Day alone.
It is imperative that I bring up the topic of roses again because it's the most popular flower on Hearts' Day. It is the flower that has the largest number of purchases on February the 14th.
We all know how roses look like. It is almost the same although it comes from different groups of cultivation. They differ in colors and the colors have symbolism.
Red is for love, pink for grace, light pink for admiration or sympathy. White is when you want to say "You're heavenly" or "I'm worthy of you..." or you want to symbolize innocence, purity or secrecy. Yellow is when you want to say "I'm jealous" or when you want to show platonic love. Orange is for passion, burgundy is for beauty and blue is for mystery.
Choose the flower that best describes what you feel because if you can't say it with words, say it with flowers, dude.

Don't you just love dolphins? I think they're absolutely adorable. Dolphins always resonate that friendly, cheerful, and warm effect on people. And I just love the idea that there's actually a flower that resembles a dolphin. It's called the Delphinium. I wasn't actually aware that such a flower existed.
The Delphinium flower is not a very common garden flower. The flower has lovely spikes with different jewel-like colors. The spikes may range from blue, lavender, off-white, and bright white. The word Delphinium came from the Greek word "delphis", which basically means "A Dolphin." The flower resembles the dolphin's nose, like a bottle. In the ancient times, the Delphinium is used to drive away the stinging scorpions. In the west coast of Native America, the Delphinium is used to make the blue dye. According to the history of Europe, the Europeans used to grind the Delphinium petals and use them as ink.
This flower is not commonly grown in the typical house gardens. Although this flower is fairly easy to grow under favorable weather, they can be like wild flowers. But, it's not suggested to just plant them anywhere and everywhere. This is because the flower's parts are poisonous. It would be hazardous to the children's health.

I have always liked the idea of the Yellow Bell flowers creeping up my window. The Yellow Bell flowers look so cheerful and alive that it adds a smile to my every waking moment. My grandmother started to plant the Yellow Bell stems under my window sill. I never noticed it until it crept up the side of our house. The flower plant is so plush with its yellow color that from afar it looks like small, bright, twinkling stars.
The Yellow Bell is, in fact, shaped like a bell. The stems have small bright yellow flowers dangling from each side. Of course there's also the Yellow Bell that has only one flower hanging from the top of the stem. You see there are different types of Yellow Bells. I'm just glad that ours is the vine-type Yellow Bell. It's also a good ornament for the house design. When I was a kid, my mother would always paint the portrait of the Yellow Bells. Sometimes she would take my photographs with the Yellow Bells on the background. They're just so refreshing to look at. Although the Yellow Bells are not the type of flowers which you can arrange in a flower bouquet, it's still a delightful flower plant!

Winter can, for gardeners at least, be considered an off-season where the best thing to do is to just wait out the snow and prepare for spring. Often, this is the time when many gardeners put their tools in storage.
But before you put away that hoe, or lock up that rake, it's a good idea to follow a few garden tips in order to make sure you'll be ready for the thaw:
Hand tools like shovels and rakes should have their metal parts oiled and their wooden parts sanded and lightly oiled to preserve them for the coming winter months.
Power tools need special care before storage, and it's best to consult with a mechanic or other professional before locking them up for the winter.

This plant starts to grow during autumn until the winter season. Flowers start to blossom in spring while it remains dormant during summer. One will notice that the plant has several sword-shaped leaves pointing upwards.
The Freesia Albas are usually white in color. Oftentimes, one can see that the flowers have a purplish tinge outside. At other times, the lowest sepal can be found with yellowish marks. This flower has the sweetest scent among all the other freesias. These flowers are mostly shaped like a funnel. It seems like the flowers can be divided into two very identical halves.
One can safely say that looking at the shape of the Freesia Alba is the easiest way to determine which type of freesia the plant is. Other species are quite irregularly shaped compared to the Alba.

Also known as Clove Pink or Grenadine, carnations are one of the most popularly cut Mediterranean flowers. Carnations live up to its name by having the distinct tassel-shaped petals that emit a piquant smell.
Basically, two groups of carnations are common in existence. Garden or border carnations are more diverse in colors and are usually one to two and a half feet tall. On the other hand, perpetual flowering variations are taller, exceeding three feet high, and produces bigger blossoms.
Carnations are especially famous and useful on special occasions like high school promenades and major galas as boutonnieres and corsages. These flowers are also a staple part of floral arrangements and are actually considered as symbols for women on Mother's Day.
Go and gather some Carnations. These flowers can surely make for a vibrant, warm house.

They come in pink and yellow, but you can't wear them. I'm talking about orchids named the Ladyslippers which bloom from April through June. Ocassionally, large numbers can be found in one area. Pink Ladyslippers are generally found in acid soils near Pine trees. These orchids rely on a particular fungus present in the soil for their growth.
The Yellow Ladyslipper has been called by the common name of American Valerian, because of its similar calmative effects. It was widely used during the 19th Century as a sedative and to relieve pain. Large doses can cause disorientation and headaches. Both have been used for medical purposes. These days, it is already prohibited to harvest the yellow ones due to rarity. It is said that Ladyslippers may cause contact dermatitis. Pink's scientific name is Cypripedium acaule while yellow's is Cypripedium calceolus var. pubescens. The LadySlippers provide not only beauty but also medicine. Just remember, they're not for your feet!

There are about 500 species of violets in the world. They are known for not having a scent, But violets do have scents, it's just that along with the chemical components of the scent is a compound called ionone, a ketone, which prevents the nose from smelling the violet scent.
Violets are safe flowers for ingestion. They don't contain any nutritional value, but they can flavor a meal. Violet flowers are popular as candy treats. Fresh violets are coated with syrup which preserves it. In France, this is still a common delicacy.
Growing violets are a cinch. The only worry gardeners have in cultivating this flower is their itinerant existence. They don't stay where you plant them. Violets spit out their seeds, and it does not take professional care for these seeds to grow. Violets are more like weeds in behavior than like other flowers. Tough love is necessary for gardening with violets. It's not every gardener who could successfully grow violets in his garden.

The lotus flower has been part of the tradition and religion of Egypt since the ancient times. In fact, it has been the subject of the many rich Egyptian legends and tales.
The lotus flower is one of its kind due to the fact that it is the only plant that blooms and bears flowers at the same time. It grows in the mud at the bottom of the water, yet only to rise above in order to yield a most beautiful flower in shades of pure white, pink, or blue.
For a long time, it has been regarded as a symbol of the sun signifying its beginning and rebirth. For during the night, the lotus flower closes and then goes down below the water surface, yet at the break of dawn, it slowly rises opening once again its most exquisite bloom.

One of the most beautiful flowers that you could use to adorn your wedding receptions is a foxglove. With its name derived from its resemblance to a glove's finger, Foxglove is a bell-shaped flower arranged vertically about one to two and a half inches long. Normally, this flower has reddish pink colors with white borders, but its hues vary depending on the cultivation.
Also known as Digitalis flower, its hairy and tall attributes attract bees during the summer, and its reversed cup form serves as a shelter to many small insects during the cold season. Despite its lovely appearance, Foxgloves are known to be poisonous, but interestingly enough, it also produces an antidote essence which can relieve bruises and ulcers.

Make no mistake about this herb, which can be mistaken as the one being used when cooking delicious recipes. The Rosemary, which is indeed an herb, produces heart warming flowers with cute little petals. Normally white, flowers colored in yellow and violet also appear.
Rosemary is a perennial herb, which requires a lot of sunlight. It is best suited outdoors where the summer sun nourishes the herbs with the nutrients coming from the sun. Likewise, Rosemary also grows during winter in pots and is kept inside the living room. This is an efficient herb considering that it will not require a lot of water once it reaches maturity. Furthermore, fertilizers are not really required but could still be added only once a year.
Though Rosemary is common, it exhibit beauty that only a few flowers could. Rosemary is a unique herb that produces sight amusing flowers.

There are various flowers and herbs in a garden that one can use for his cooking or for medical purposes. One such kind is the Rosemary.
This flower was originally grown in the monasteries in the Mediterranean. This became widely popular but was its widespread cultivation was deterred because of its vulnerability to cold. This plant only used to grow in warm places but there are now freeze-tolerant cultivars that have been invented.
The strong aroma of the rosemary is what makes it appealing to people, most especially to culinary enthusiasts. The rosemary is being likened to eucalyptus or camphor. The leaves of this plant are what people most often use in cooking. The leaves do not lose its aroma and flavor even with long cooking. The smell of rosemary is what attracts people to use it.
From a distance Gaillarda looks like a daisy, but it has garish yellow and orange petals, with eyes the color of burgundy. This flower has been discovered accidentally in and English garden center. It may look delicate but a Blanket Flower, or Fanfare, is a brash and hardy perennial. In fact, it is one of the longest-thriving perennials. Its spliced stem survives on the water for a week, and the flower itself outlives the drought. Blanket flowers are perfect for hot gardens and patios.
The sturdiness of the Blanket flower is disguised in the soft trumpet-like petals. They can be planted on sunny rock gardens and Xeriscapes. During summer the best way to produce the Fanfares in full bloom is to regularly deadhead them.
